Fortune: Rooney Still Important for Mourinho
Wayne Rooney still has a major role to play in Manchester United. It is the opinion of a former colleague at Old Trafford, Quinton Fortune.
Rooney himself is not expected to again have a career at United, after manager Jose Mourinho decided not drop him as a starter in the game against Leicester City last week. Without the captain, Manchester United won 4-1 and showed an impressive game.
But Fortune told the Express: "Could not I say he was gone. He has experience and is also a long history. It is very important to United, on and off the field. I will try to bring out the best from him. He probably could not often play like before, but we have to be more patient.
"Rooney is similar to Keane. He sacrificed himself for the team to win. For me, he is a striker, but he can also play in the middle and there is no reason why he finished top scorer in England. But we know there will be a lot of criticism if Rooney does not play by the expected. "
"Victory middle of this week will probably motivate him. Nothing is left untouched. You have to look good. So you should be able to maintain the standard every day. How do you play and keep the attitude and mental.
